How We Assess Your Fur

When you bring in your fur garments to our store in Mineola, our experts follow the 6 steps examination process.

  1. Examine the condition of the fur.
  2. Check for rips, tears or worn areas that need repair.
  3. Examine the lining for loose seams, labels or tears that need repair.
  4. Thoroughly check hooks and eyes, buttons and loops.
  5. Determine whether the garment requires a cleaning.
  6. At your request we can discuss remodeling possibilities.

Cleaning Facts

Why you should clean your fur

You do not only clean a fur coat because it gets dirty. Because fur is a natural material it is of great importance to have it cleaned and conditioned once a year. Whether you own a garment made out of mink, beaver, fox, rabbit, sable or something else, we know how to deal with it!

Conditioning of leather

Conditioning of the leather is essential to keeping the natural oils in the pelts from drying out. During our conditioning and glazing process we remove pollutants, dust and chemicals that are trapped in the fur and its pores.

By conditioning the fur we remove the particulates from the skin and replenish the natural oils in the skin.

Glazing

Glazing is the process of bringing out the natural luster and sheen of a fur and is normally performed after the cleaning process. This involves a steaming/ironing procedure that’s unique to the type of fur being treated.

Damage prevention

Your fur coat, fur vest or anything else that goes around your body has points of tension. If the leather of the pelts becomes dry, the probability of rips and tears increases.  To avoid future damages it is important to regularly clean your garment as a form of maintenance for the skins.

Removing dirt, stains and odors

You love your fur, but accidents happen to the best of us. Whether you spilled fluids on your fur coat or it got wet by the rain, it will need care by an expert.

Fur Alterations & Restyling

Are you concerned that the style of fur coat might not be in style anymore?  Did you inherit a coat from a loved one but it is not quite your taste?  Or are you just looking to revamp your garment because you don’t want to purchase a new one?

Don’t worry, restyling your coat is one of our specialties. Our team is happy to discuss possibilities to restyle your fur coat, vest or  jacket. We strive to transform your coat into something you will want to wear all winter long!

Fur Alterations

Anything you can imagine, we can make happen. These are some of the fur alterations we often hear our clients request:

  • Shorten your full length coat into a shorter jacket or vest.
  • Shorten sleeves.
  • Shear down your mink coat.
  • Soften shoulders for a more modern look.
  • Resize your fur garment for a better fit.
  • Make a scarf, headband or earmuffs out of leftover fur material.
  • Turn your garment into home accessories like pillows or blankets.

The prices of fur alterations and restyling vary per request. We understand that your fur holds (sentimental) value. Never throw away your fur!  Our customers appreciate our great communication and transparency in what they can expect.

Feel free to schedule an appointment so that our fur specialists can review the condition of your garment and discuss the vision you have in mind.  We will give you a quote on the spot so that you know the cost before we begin to transform your fur into the garment of your dreams.
